Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik was arrested from Abi Guzar by police on Tuesday ahead of his scheduled function of Joint Resistance leadership(JRL).

Sources said that Malik was scheduled to attend a function of JRL to commemorate the 50th death anniversary of late Moulana Yusuf Shah at Aali Masjid.

A large posse of police reached Abi Guzar Tuesday afternoon from where they arrested Malik.

Earlier, Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was also placed under house arrest last night.

The detentions come in the wake of a Joint Resistance Leadership programme on the 50th death anniversary of Moulana Yusuf Shah.

The programme to commemorate the death anniversary of Moulana Yusuf Shah is being organised at Aali Masjid in Srinagar from 3 pm onwards later today.
