Union Textile Minister reviews handloom development project

Union Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta, Minister for Industries & Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga and Member Parliament, Jammu-Poonch constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma today visited Export Oriented Handloom Development Project at Samba and inspected the activities undertaken by J&K State Handloom Development Corporation (JKHDC) in the project.

They   inspected the Weaving Section, Processing House, Stores & Testing laboratories of the project and appreciated the quality of products being manufactured by the Corporation.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Ajay Tamta stressed on encouraging more handloom products in decentralized sector by proving the handlooms to the artisans in the surrounding areas. He also assured full assistance to the State from the Centre by sanctioning more projects in the Handloom Sector.

Ganga impressed upon the Corporation to promote the sales of handloom items by attracting the private entrepreneurs for marketing of finished items. He also directed for exploring the possibilities to establish a Cluster at Samba for upliftment of weavers and women folk.

Managing Director, JKHDC Rakesh Sharma gave an overview of the achievements of the Corporation in the field of production, finishing, printing and stitching of fabrics.
