Pipeline ruptures at Sempora, traffic comes to a standstill

Commuters had to face tremendous hardships on Monday as the major water supply pipeline running through the area ruptured in Sempora area of Pampore.

Though the main road in Sempora Pantha Chowk road has already developed potholes, the rupturing of pipeline in the wee hours today has resulted in the inundation, which added to the miseries of commuters.

Hundreds of vehicles were seen stranded on the busy Srinagar-Jammu highway at Pantha Chowk.

Witnesses said that due to the massive potholes near Sempora, the vehicles take quite longer to cross the potholed stretch.

“We have been waiting here for almost an hour and do not see any hope to cross the stretch within next half an hour,” a commuter said.

The commuters informed Kashmir Vision that that a loaded truck carrying cement bags while trying to cross the potholed road got stuck in the mid of the road thereby resulting in a massive traffic jams, which long lasted for the whole day.

The locals in the area said that they approached the higher ups several times and asked for fixing the supply pipe line, but no action was taken.

“The frequent traffic jams on this highway has resulted in the immense hardships to the people here especially to the shopkeepers here. The authorities must take concrete steps in this regard to end the sufferings of people,” they added.
