Naeem Akhtar directs removal of encroachments

Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar today reviewed the rehabilitation of street vendors and status of improvement in civic amenities at Hazuribagh Srinagar.

The Minister said that as per the directions of Chief Minister who was concerned over the blocked roads in the area, the vendors have been provided a specific place and the encroachments have been removed. He said that there has been a marked improvement in traffic flow at this vital junction. The Minister gave directions to improve the entire road stretch and strengthen the civic amenities in the surrounding areas.

The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer R&B, Commissioner SMC and other officials.

The vendors and the locals met the Minister and expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister and MLA Amirakadal for providing them the long sought relief in traffic movement and development. The Minister assured the people that the area would be further developed so that it will benefit both business men and common people.

The Minister also visited the Polo View market where he interacted with the local shopkeepers for developing the market. The Minister said that after discussion with all stakeholders Government will explore the possibility of turning Polo View market into a vehicle free zone and develop it as a heritage market.

The Minister also directed the R&B officials to develop the sidewalk from Polo View to TRC for the benefit of pedestrians. He said that the sidewalk is a unique in the sense that it is almost entirely coverage under the mighty Chinars giving it a unique beautiful setting. The Minister also visited the Bund and took stock of the beautification work in place for the road.
