At the time when the government has closed its eyes towards the patients who have to rely on lifelong medicines, a private medical store run by a non-governmental organization has started a campaign to rescue such patients.

Social Reform Organization (SRO) is running a medical shop under the name of Madina Medicate in Tengpora, Batamaloo, and is helping those patients who are economically not-so-sound, and are relaying largely on lifetime drugs.

The organization is providing all the medicines that a patient would be taking for the lifetime at a discount of around 15 per cent, contrary to the health sector of the state that has not come up with any such policy that would have been helpful for the poor and the needy section of the society, who have to have continue with such medicines for the lifetime.

According to the officials at SRO, they have registered more than 100 individuals under this scheme and are providing them with 15 per cent discount on different drugs important for their regular intake.

“We have registered more than100 souls under this scheme, and are providing them with the medicines on discounted rates,” said Javaid Ahmad, member, SRO.

Officials at the organization’s office said that the drugs taken for the treatment of hypertension and diabetes are among the major drugs that have been prescribed to the patients and have been asked to take regularly.

The move is being seen as a welcome step by the residents living around, as they are saying that the initiative is going to help the needy and the poor section of the society.

Abdul Qayoom, local resident of Batamaloo said that “the government should take a cue from such initiatives and should replicate it on a larger scale.”
