NIA being used to defame pro-freedom leadership: Geelani
Hurriyat Conference (G), on Saturday, convened a meeting of its executive body (Majlis Shoora) at Hyderpora to assess the situation after recent raids by National Investigation Agency (NIA) at the residences of pro-freedom leadership and present scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.
Syed Ali Geelani in his address said the authorities were using NIA as a war weapon against pro-freedom leadership to defame them and discredit the freedom struggle.
Geelani said, “They have crossed all limits and there is no legal justification for such arbitrary measures. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, its leadership and cadre were the main target of the authorities. It is a pre-planned psychological crackdown, so that they surrender and stop voicing the sentiments of the people.
“We have no hidden agenda and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat represents political aspirations of people, who support us generously. Our activities are open, transparent and based on political ideology.”
He categorically said that Centre and Pakistan, both can’t thrust their will and only the people in the state have the right to decide their political destiny. “We will pursue their mission for right to self-determination until the Kashmir issue is resolved as per aspirations of people.”
Referring to NIA raids, Syed Ali Geelani said that all these tactics and coercive measures won’t deter us from pursuing our mission, nor will it make us surrender.
The representatives of all its constituents, including Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Bilal Sidiqee, Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Mohammad Yasin Ataie, Advocate Mohammad Shafi Rishi, Yasmeen Raja, Mohammad Shafi Lone, Mohammad Yousuf Nadeem, Hakim Abdul Rashid, Ghulam Mohammad Nagoo, Mohammad Yusuf Naqash, Molvi Bashir, Syed Mohammad Shafi, Imtiyaz Ahmad Shah, Sheikh Zameer Ahmad and Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar attended the meeting.
