Following resistance leadership’s shutdown call on Friday against the Shopian youth’s killing by government forces, scores of  youth  assembled near Markazi Jamia Masjid Sopore and started shouting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.

Reports said that the youth, immediately after the Friday congregational prayers, tried to take a protest march from Jamia Masjid area amid pro-freedom and anti-government slogans, but were stopped by the  forces who were deployed at  the main bazaar Sopore.

As the forces barred the youth to take out the march, the youth started hurling stones, to which the forces responded with teargas shells, triggering clashes.

Consequently, all shops and business establishments were shut.

Pertinently, the authorities had already ordered for closure of all Schools and Colleges throughout valley as a precautionary measure.

Forces have been deployed in large numbers at many parts of town in order to prevent any protests.
