Delegation from MHRD, IIM Lucknow visits Kashmir

Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, on Monday said that the state government is committed to provide quality education and state of the art infrastructural facilities to the students of Jammu and Kashmir. 

          This was stated by Bukhari during a meeting with the officials of from Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) and IIM- Lucknow who visited Kashmir to inspect the proposed site for the establishment of IIM outcampus in Srinagar.

          The Minister observed that establishment of IIM in Srinagar would provide an opportunity and a platform to the students of Kashmir for excelling in the field of management so that they are able to compete at national and international levels.

          The delegation comprised Joint Director MHRD, Mr J.S. Parveen Kumar, Director IIM Lucknow, Mr Ajit Prashad and Prof. Prakash Singh. The delegation was accompanied by Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Dr. Asghar Samoon, Director Colleges, Dr G.M. Bakal, DC Budgam, Nodal Principals of Jammu and Kashmir (colleges), and other sectoral officers.

During the meeting the delegation raised various issues relating to the establishment of the extended campus of IIM in Kashmir including availability of over 100 acres of land, drinking water facility, electricity supply lines etc.

It was opined that the land be identified at an earliest so that the construction work is started soon and the academic session is started for the students at an earliest.

The minister assured them that he will look into all the issues surfaced during the meeting and try for their immediate resolution.

He said the establishment of this extended campus will bring the new dimension to the education scenario of Kashmir and will provide students an additional platform for pursuing higher studies.

 Earlier the team had visited Narkara area in Budgam for taking firsthand assessment of the proposed site for the construction of Extended Campus of IIM-Jammu in Kashmir. The team will send the report to the higher ups on the finalization of site of IIM outcampus in coming days.
