Hurriyat (M) Chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was released from house detention after six day today morning to address the first Friday congregation of the holy month of Ramadhan at the Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar.

Media advisor of the Mirwaiz, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, who continues to be under house arrest, said that the chief cleric was released from six-day detention today morning.

Mirwaiz addresses the Muslims at the Jamia Masjid every Friday before the congregational prayers.

He was placed under detention last Saturday to prevent him from leading a protest rally following the killing of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat.
