Minister reviews water supply scenario

Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today convened a meeting to review the water supply position in Jammu.

The Minister also reviewed the steps being taken by the department to augment water supply in the city during summer season.

Chief Engineer, PHE, Susheel Aima, Chief Engineer, Flood Control Rajeev Gandotra, Chief Engineer, Ravi Tawi Irrigation Complex Mahesh Das and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.

During the meeting, the Minister enquired about the status of water supply in areas including Sainik Colony, Channi Himmat and Trikuta Nagar after the commissioning of new water supply schemes.

The Minister stressed upon the officers to ascertain water supply position in Kandi areas besides subsequently framing measures to further augment the supply.

The Minister also reviewed the position of water flow in Ranbir and Pratap canals and directed the officers to take concerted measures for keeping the canals functional and ensuring that farmers get adequate water supply for irrigation in their fields for paddy cultivation.

He further asked the officers to identify critical spots on the banks of rivers and nallahs and take immediate steps to minimize the damage during floods.
