IAS qualifier Bilal Bhat wants to serve the people of Kashmir
Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat who bagged 10th rank at All India level in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams believes that serving people of his area should be the preference of every civil service aspirant.
A resident of Unisoo Wahipora in Langate area of Kupwwara district, Bhat said he will prefer to serve people of Kashmir given his past work experiences.
“Serving people of Kashmir will always be my preference. I have worked in Kashmir in past as well. I want to serve the people there,” Bhat said.
Bhat, a son of retired KAS officer believes that his success can be an inspiration for people who desire to work hard and achieve new feats.
“These exams are cracked only if one works hard because it always pays in the long run,” he said.
Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat has qualified KAS exams in 2013 and later got a feather in his cap after he cracked IFS and joined as DFO in Forest Department Lucknow.
He has remained out of Kashmir since 2005 and started his preparation for competitive exams in Delhi and Lucknow.
“For me things were not as difficult as they were for people who prepared in the state,” Bhat said.
Bhat aspires to work for the people and solve their issues. “My priority is to work with the people,” he said.
Pertinently, fourteen candidates from Jammu and Kashmir have made it to the merit list of UPSC Civil Service Exam conducted in 2016, the results of which were declared on Wednesday.
The others from J&K state who qualified the exam include Zafar Iqbal (rank 39), Syed Fakhrudin Hamid (rank 86), Bisma Qazi (rank 115), Suhail Qasim Mir (rank 125), Saqib Yousuf (rank 472), Inabat Khaliq (rank 604), Faisal Javaid (rank 610), and Amir Bashir (rank 1087).
Another Kashmir based candidate who made it to civil service exams is Bisma Qazi, 25, from uptown Srinagar. Bisma got 115th rank in the exams.
Bisma is a 2013 engineering graduate. “After completing my engineering from SSM College. I directly started preparation for my civil services,” said Bisma who has never applied for any other government job.
Earlier Bisma made an unsuccessful attempt in KAS as she couldn’t qualify preliminary exams.
“But I was optimistic that I will achieve something big in life. Today I have done it,” she said.
Another candidate from south Kashmir’s Sherhama village in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district got 125th rank in his UPSC exams.
Suhail Qasim Mir, a son of a police cop got 125th rank and credited his success to the support of his family.
Suhail did his schooling from his village and later completed his graduation from Degree College Bemina.
Later he shifted to New Delhi and did his MBA from Jamia Milai University. At present he is pursuing his P.Hd from the same University.
The topper this year is Nandini KR from Karnataka.
She is a graduate of BE (Civil Engineering) degree from MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore.
She is followed by Anmol Sher Singh Bedi and G Ronanki who have got the second and third positions, respectively. Bedi has a BE Computer Science Degree from BITS Pilani. There are 7 women and 18 men who have bagged the top 25 positions in the exam.
The civil service exams were conducted in August 2016 for which 11,35,943 candidates applied and over 4 lakh candidates appeared for the exams. About 15,452 candidates qualified for the main written exam that was conducted in December 2016 of whom 2,961 qualified for the Personality Test.
According to the results, which were uploaded on Wednesday evening, 1,099 candidates have been recommended for appointment to various central government services. They include 44 physically handicapped candidates (22 orthopedically handicapped, seven visually challenged and 15 hearing impaired). There are 220 other candidates in the waiting list.
A total of 1,209 vacancies were notified by the government, which were to be filled through the civil services examination 2016.
