Srinagar girl aspires to take women Rugby team to new heights
A 22-year old Srinagar girl is making all efforts to take the Jammu & Kashmir Women Rugby team to new heights despite all the odds.
The seven times J&K Woman Rugby team’s national player, Sajida Yousuf Sheikh is currently training the junior players JK Rugby woman team voluntarily.
Hailing from Malabagh area in the outskirts of the city, Sajida is student of Mass Communication and Journalism at University of Kashmir.
Sajida while talking to Kashmir Vision said that her family is very supportive. “In spite of the difficulties, no one discourages or stops me from playing Rugby. I will continue to train the rugby players till my family supports me,” Sajida said.
Out of seven national rugby tournaments, Sajida two leads Jammu Kashmir woman rugby team in two tourneys at national levels as a captain.
“Since Class 9th, I started playing Rugby and now this game is directed linked with me and I am addicted with this game now,” she said.
Interestingly, Sajida being a Coach of J&K Junior Rugby woman team had finished National Rugby Championship by securing 2nd position that was held in the beginning of this year at Gujarat.
The team has also won the Bowls Cup in Mumbai.
“It was a wonderful experience for me being a coach .It was my dream that has come true, I would like to give coaching to more and more budding rugby players of my state as long as I can,” she added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Sajida has recently been assigned the charge of assistant Coach of J&K Junior Rugby woman team.
