80% students appear in CET exam
As many as 8866 aspirants appeared in Common Entrance Test (CET) which was conducted by JK Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) on Sunday.
Officials of the JKBOPEE said the CET examination was conducted successfully with a participation of around 80 percent students across state. He said around 80 percent aspirants appeared in the exam. A total of 11163 aspirants had applied for the examination of which around 8866 aspirants appeared while as 2297 were absent.
“The response of students was good. The students showed maximum participation. Number of students from Kashmir was more than that of Jammu region,” said the official of the BOPEE.
He said the students were given enough time to get prepared for the examination, after publication of the exam notification.
“This exam was only for students who want to opt for engineering courses. Other exams like MBBS, BDS are conducted by NEET at national level,” the official said.
BOPEE had set up around 15 exam centres across J&K state of which nine were set up in Srinagar for 5659 aspirants of which 4169 appeared in exams. Similarly six centres were set up at various places in Jammu division wherein 4697 out of 5504 aspirants made it to exams.
The exam duration was of three hours from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm This year, JK BOPEE was authorised to conduct the competitive exams for bachelors of engineering (BE) courses only.
Last year BOPEE was allowed to conduct the competitive exams in CET for BUMS, BAMS and BPT and BE while as the MBBS and BDS aspirants as per the supreme court directions appeared at national level exams in National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by CBSE.
Authorities on Sunday had clamped curfew like restrictions in various parts of Kashmir in wake of the killing of Hizbul Mujahidin commander-Sabzar Ahmad Bhat in an encounter on Saturday in Tral area of south Kashmir.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Lone said the transport facility was kept available for students at TRC. “Transport facilities was kept available for students coming from different areas and were ferried to their respective exam centres and back to their home as well. We also provided transport facility to the aspirants coming from Anantnag. We hired buses from SRTC to ferry Anantnag students to their homes,” he said.
In wake of the restrictions divisional administration had issued orders to treat the admit cards and identity cards of candidates and staff as curfew passes. He also directed Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to deploy magistrates for each location of examination centres for the conveniences of the public.
He had also directed all Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir to arrange transport facility for the candidates appearing in Common Entrance Test (CET) and MBBS Course 2017 (AIIMS) on Sunday.
