The Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pahalgam and Naib Tehsildar Aishmuqam were transferred after they tried to dismantle illegal structures on the state land in the district.

Local sources informed that one Ghulam Muhammad Ganai of Chhansingh Pora village of Aishmuqam town of South Kashmir Anantnag district had grabbed state land comprising 2.5 kanals and was building a residential house there.

Sources said that SDM Pahalgam Nisar Ahmed Nisar and Naib Tehsildar Aishmuqam Ghulam Hasan had sent a team to dismantle the structure after locals filed a complaint. Interestingly, both the officials were transferred within a day under political pressure.

Locals alleged that the encroacher had raising the illegal structure on the behest of Tehsildar Pahalgam, a charge that he has denied.

The transferred officials are tight lipped. Naib Tehsildar declined to comment on the issue while SDM Nisar Ahmed Nisar who has been shifted to Civil Secretariat said that his action may have been the reason of his transfer.

He, however, quickly added that his transfer was due.

Tehsildar Pahalgam, Ghulam Rasool Bhat, told that many people in the village have occupied the state land. “We are helpless to initiate action against the encroachers as there are dozens of houses that belong to minority community.”
