Hindutva cheerleaders poke Aiyer for meeting Hurriyat leaders

Actor Anupam Kher slammed Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for meeting Hurriyat leaders in Srinagar saying that he met people ‘who were responsible for killings in Kashmir’.

Condemning Aiyar’s meeting with resistance leaders, Anupam Kher had said, “Representations of some political parties insult us by meeting certain Hurriyat leaders.”

A five-member delegation team led by Mani Shankar Aiyar had on Thursday called on Hurriyat Conference leaders including Octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and discussed prevailing situation in the Valley.

Considering the situation a very critical Aiyar had insisted that New Delhi should hold dialogue with all the stakeholders in Kashmir as it would bring enduring solutions by bringing peace in the Valley as well as reduce tensions between India and Pakistan. The delegation stressed that New Delhi must interact with Kashmiri people and assuage the feelings of the protesters to find a solution to the long pending issue.

Aiyar defended his action of meeting Hurriyat leaders and said that he wants to meet all sections of people and hold reasonable discussion, Firstpost.com reported. The Congress leader welcomed the disapproval said the actor lives in a mansion in Mumbai and has not visited Kashmir to take stock of the situation for decades.

“You think I didn’t expect it. This is a democratic country. He lives in a mansion in Bombay and I don’t think he has been to Kashmir for decades. If in his illiteracy he wishes to criticize me then I welcome his criticism and I will give a response to the people of Kashmir,” DNA quoted Aiyar.
