NC women’s wing hit streets against awarding of Army Major
Amidst the controversy over the human shield issue, the women’s wing of Opposition National Conference (NC) on Wednesday rallied against the awarding of an army Major who used a Kashmiri civilian as a human shield by tying him to the bonnet of his jeep during the April 9 by-poll in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, reports said.
Lead by MLA Habba Kada and senior NC leader Shameema Firdous, the women started their march at the party headquarters in Nawa-i-Subh complex and marched towards the Radio Kashmir crossing where they were intercepted by the police.
“The rally was organized against the awarding of army officer who used a Kashmiri man Farooq Ahmad Dar as a human shield”, Shameema Firdaus told reporters.
Pertinently, Major Gogoi was on Monday awarded the Chief of Army Staff’s Commendation Card for his “sustained efforts in counter-insurgency operations.”
The decision has evoked sharp criticism from various quarters of society.
