Gagangeer residents protest after recovery of illicit liquor

Inhabitants of Gagangeer in Gund Tehsil of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday staged protest after they recovered a huge quantity of illicit liquor from a vehicle.

The protesting inhabitants also blocked Srinagar-Leh highway for hours and demanded stern action against the accused.

Witnesses said that the locals in the area while casting a doubt on a vehicle intercepted Scorpio bearing registration number JK16-8205 and recovered a huge quantity of illicit liquor from it.

They said that the Scorpio belongs to APCO Construction Company working on Z-Morh Tunnel at Gagangeer.

The locals while holding demonstration said that “such things will affect our society especially our children.”

Meanwhile, Station House Officer (SHO) Gund, Khurshid Ahmad rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring action against the accused.

The Gund police according to the officials also registered a case in this regard and have started an investigation.

Officials said that the driver was arrested by the police while the vehicle was also seized.
