Two-day workshop on advanced photography begins at DCJ

A two-day workshop on photography organised by the Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) began at Nowgam-I academic block of the university here today.

 

Noted photojournalist Javed Dar, who is the resource person, spoke about the challenges faced by photojournalists working in conflict zones while sharing some interesting anecdotes. He dealt with the technical nuances of photography including importance of composition and lighting.

 

Javed who works with international news agency Xinhua was awarded outstanding employee for 2016. He is also the recipient of National Photography Award for outstanding photojournalism.

 

Coordinator, DCJ, Asif Khan stressed on the importance of photography in journalism. “In conflict zones, photojournalists do a commendable job despite the risks involved,” he said. Referring to the book ‘Witness’, Mr Asif hailed the idea of compiling the photographs captured by seasoned photojournalists of the valley.

 

Assistant Professor, Ms. Sadaf Bushra, who is the workshop in-charge, said the students will go on a field trip in and around Srinagar city on the second day of the workshop. The best photographs shall be showcased and framed after the workshop ends, she added.
