A day after MD/MS aspirants protested against the BOPEE for violating rules in selection of candidates for post graduation, BOPEE said that they followed rules in letter and spirit.

Chairman BOPEE, Ashraf Bukhari, said the board notified the admission list of Post graduate candidates on May 8 and candidates were asked to take admission upto May 12.

“In the meantime due to some pressing domestic exigencies, which I had been delaying for a week only to see that first list was notified. Even attending domestic exigencies at Delhi the second list (upgradation) was notified on May 18 and prepared under my close supervision through mail process,” Bukhari said.

“In the meantime High Court Division Bench in Jammu on May 19 directed to redraw merit list in some cases. Considering the urgency into the matter legal experts were consulted within a day and matter is being pursued.”

“This year BOPEE went for online counseling and applied all rules in letter and spirit. Some open merit candidates have a grouse against application of Rule 17 of reservation rules which gives some benefit to category candidates in selecting discipline of their choice if they fall in Open Merit to avoid disadvantage to such candidates. These OM candidates want subjectivity to be followed to deny category candidates their due provided under rules and are insisting for off line allotment. This is not possible as Board cannot go by subjectivity and will never compromise on application of rule in letter and spirit,” he said.

MD/MS protested yesterday, saying that the BOPEE has failed to conduct re-counselling for the admissions of the selected candidates despite court directions.

The aspirants censured the decision of BOPEE while deciding to implement Rule 17 which reportedly has affected their chances of securing admission in clinical branches, a preferred choice by most of the aspirants.

They said BOPEE is implementing rules “arbitrarily” depriving the prospects of candidates seeking admission under open merit category and narrowing down choices of meritorious students.

“Though online counseling, BOPEE has declared the offline results. We were unaware about the number of seats and the seats blocked ahead of them. Preference choices and blocking has been clubbed together due to which open merit students are facing lot of mental trauma”, they had said.

“BOPEE has given more clinical seats to category students while non-clinical berths have gone to open merit students. BOPEE is virtually headless. When a candidate approaches the board, ‘Chairman is out of station’ is the onlyb answer.”

“In pediatrics GMC Srinagar, of the 13 seats, 10 have been allotted to category candidates and three to open- merit candidates which clearly violates 65:35 ratio and same has happened with other clinical branches. Physical counseling should be made as it is will provide solution to this injustice and everything will be clear accordingly and it will save the future of meritorious candidates,” the candidates said.
