The residents of Kupwara town Sunday alleged that the district administration has failed to cut down the Russian poplar trees after the directions of the High Court.

“Hundreds of Russian trees planted at different locations of the town including Jamia Qadeem, near Sub District Hospital, Main Chowk and other areas have not been cut down yet, due to which people particularly school going children are falling sick due to pollen allergy,” the locals told KNS.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has already issued an order asking for removal of Russian poplars across the Kashmir valley.

Tehsildar Kupwara Nazir Ahmad told KNS that they lack equipments, labour and funds to cut down the tress. “We will start our drive to cut down the Russian Poplar’s trees within two days.

While trying to contact DC Kupwara, his mobile phone was switched off at that time.
