Arms, ammunition recovered in Handwara forest
Arms and ammunition were recovered by government forces from a forest in Handwara area of Kupwara district, police said on Monday.
Pertinently a brief encounter had taken place between forces and militants in the same area last night.
Yesterday, after noticing some suspicious movement in Kehmal forest area of Handwara, the troops of 6 Rashtriya Rifles challenged a heavily armed militant group, a police official said.
He said the militants opened firing towards the forces, who retaliated, forcing the militants to flee from the spot.
Afterwards the army conducted massive search around the encounter scene and recovered a pistol, two pistol magazines, 40 rounds of ammunition, one power bank with battery charging cable, a binocular, seven dry batteries, an axe and a walking stick, the police official said.
Police has registered a case under various sections of law in connection with the incident.
