Anti- polythene drive launched at Sopore

As part of the statewide initiative, Department of Rural Development Department today launched anti-polythene drive in Sopore today.

A team of officials comprising Municipal council, revenue, FCS&CA, police led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sopore Sandeep Singh Bali visited Sopore market and seized 250 kg of polyethene.

During the drive, several polythene-using vendors were checked and a large quantity of polyethene was ceased from them.

About 250kg of polyethene have been ceased from various markets of the subdivision till date besides Rs 2700 of fine collected from the erring traders.

On the occasion, the SDM said that such a move has been started to clean the environment from the ill effects of pollution caused by the polyethene.

“The drive will help in rejuvenating the fertility of soil so that the production and productivity may get enhanced”, the SDM added.

He also said that all the street vendors that have occupied the footpaths will be removed so that the hassle free movement of the people will be ensured.
