Farooq Andrabi lays foundation of Rs 5.85 cr Chontipora-Bagwanpora WSS

Minister of State for Hajj & Auqaf, PHE and PDD, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi today laid the foundation stone of Chontipora-Baghwanpora Water Supply Scheme here at Verinag.

The scheme funded by NABARD will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 5.85 crore. Giving details of the scheme, the officials informed the Minister that the scheme will lift water from Verinag spring and supply it to the areas in Dooru-Shahabad. It will benefit 9963 souls spread over six habitations, besides the seasonal nomadic population.

While addressing a public gathering, the Minister reiterated the government pledge to work for prosperity and progress of the people. He said that various developmental schemes pertaining to roads, power supply, potable drinking water, health care, education, development of tourist infrastructure and providing employment opportunities have been undertaken and are in different stages of completion.

The Minister also chaired a meeting of officers to review the developmental scenario in Dooru constituency. He impressed upon the officers to infuse new spirit in the pace and quality of the developmental works. He also directed the officers of engineering departments to gear up their men and machinery for timely completion of ongoing projects.

He also gave directions for ensuring that the Dooru and Verinag towns become polyethylene-free in the shortest possible time.

The Minister, later, visited Kapran Halsidar to take stock of the situation arisen due to the recent flash floods. He directed the officers to take measures for assessing the damages and report the same to the concerned quarters.

Enroute, a number of delegations met the Minister who presented their demands before him. The Minister issued on spot directions to the officers for mitigating the issues.

The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer PDD, SE PHE/I&FC, SDM of Dooru and Verinag, CEO VDA, Tehsildars and officers of other departments.
