Missing cop jumped into river in Handwara: Police

A police constable, who had gone missing from duties since May 14, has reportedly jumped into the river under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Sameer Ji Kumar belt no 862/S working with Srinagar police has gone missing from his duties since 14th of May 2017, police said in a statement.

“During the course of investigation it has been revealed that the missing constable had absented from his duties and went to Kupwara along with a colleague and his uncle Head Constable Dileep Kumar. After dropping his uncle at DPL Kupwara, the police constable reached Yonsoo bridge in the jurisdiction of Police Post Chogal, Handwara and jumped into the Puhroo river reportedly under the influence of liquor”, police said.

Police has started looking for the missing constable. According to the police marine commandos of Navy are also being pressed into service along with the river police.

Police said that further investigation is going on.
