Four wounded in a grenade explosion in the city

A grenade suspected to be thrown by militants at a police station in the old part of the city wounded three cops and a bystander when it exploded on the road in the Safa Kadal area.

The apparent target of the attack was the local police station. Police sources said that a cop, Sameer Ahmad, sustained minor injuries in the attack while the civilian, Arif, also suffered light injuries. 

While giving details about the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Imtiyaz Ismail said that “one constable, two SPOs and a civilian were injured in the attack.”

The injured were immediately rushed to nearby SMHS hospital. As per officials “one SPO has received severe injuries in the attack and is currently being treated in the hospital.”

The SPO injured in the incident has been identified as Sameer Ahmad.

SSP added that three others, including a civilian have received minor injuries, adding that “they were discharged later.”
