SIC convenes awareness camp on RTI Act

Awareness-cum-round table session on implementation and monitoring of RTI Act, 2009 was held today under the supervision of Chief Information Commissioner, Khursheed Ahmad Ganai, at Dak Bungalow Baramulla.

The meeting was attended by DDC Baramulla Dr. Nasir Ahmad Naqash, Registrar SIC, ADC, SDM Pattan, Tehsildars, FAAs, PIOs, and APIOs from all Departments, RTI activists of the valley and officers from various Departments.

The DDC apprised the CIC that since 2009 when the Act came into effect, till March 31, 2016, as many as  2183 applications were received under RTI Act in the district and  all of them have been disposed off. It was said that from April 1, 2016 till date, a total of 500 applications were received and 482 applications have already been cleared.

On the occasion, the CIC termed the RTI Act as means to secure information under the control of public authorities; to promote transparency and accountability and also intended to provide citizens of the State with a legal mandate mechanism for obtaining government records for welfare governance.

The RTI activists present in the meeting discussed threadbare the various dimensions of the Act and emphasized the need for its awareness, implementation and proper monitoring.
