Clashes erupted in Anantnag town of south Kashmir on Thursday after the government forces allegedly roughed up a shopkeeper in Dangerpora locality of the town.

Reports and witnesses said that traders staged a protest against the alleged high-handedness of the forces after the incident.

Forces lobbed teargas and PAVA shells to break up the demonstration, triggering chaos in the area with shopkeepers downing shutters in several areas.

Later, students also joined the demonstration.

More details awaited.
