Central University of Jammu (CUJ) has been named as the “non-performers” among the eleven centrally funded universities of India. The Human Resource Development Ministry has reportedly identified the CUJ as one of the non-performers.

The central government has reportedly identified the CUJ as one of the most non-performing university and ordered the University Grant Commission (UGC) to conduct an academic and research quality audit of the university.

According to reports, among the prestigious universities identified as non-performers are Aligarh Muslim University, CUJ, Allahabad University and Pondicherry University.

The HRD Ministry headed by Prakash Javdekar has identified such universities and asked the UGC to conduct an audit which will also include research output.

Sources said that CUJ has been engrossed in one after the other controversies ever since the present vice chancellor Ashok Aima’s appointment. Several complaints pertaining to recruitment scams have surfaced during the past some time.

The Governor NN Vohra, who is chancellor of CUJ, too reportedly was unhappy with the functioning of the VC of the university. He expressed his displeasure during the meeting of the court of the CUJ in April last month. The Governor was reportedly annoyed over the traditional black board teaching being done in the university instead of concentrating on research.

He stressed that some research projects must relate to finding practical solutions to the problems of Jammu and Kashmir like-wisein the arena of security studies the socio-economic and political implications of the Cross-LoC trade and Cross-LoC bus services between India and Pakistan could be gainfully studied, as perhaps the Chinese Economic Corridor through Pakistan administered Kashmir and Pakistan.

Governor NN Vohra had observed that the Vice-Chancellor should redouble efforts for completing the University’s infrastructure within a definite timeframe and advised that a scientific survey should be carried out to map the ground water potential at the site of the University.
