Minister for developing Gulmarg as prime tourist destination

Minister for Horticulture, Syed Basharat Bukhari, today visited Gulmarg to review pace of various development works undertaken by different departments there and to interact with people associated with tourism sector to promote the skiing destination as prime tourist place.

Legislator Mohammad Abbas Wani also accompanied the Minister during the visit.

On the occasion, Bukhari took a detailed review of works being executed for beautification of Gulmarg as a world class tourist destination. The Minister inspected Dormitory and PDD facility damaged due to heavy snowfall there during winter and directed the concerned for immediate repair of all such structures, so that they are put to proper use.

Emphasizing the need of involving human resource, artists, architects and all concerned for developing Gulmarg as an ideal tourist destination, he directed the officials of Gulmarg Development Authority to take concerted measures to ensure green and clean Gulmarg. He said that development works should executed strictly keeping in view that that natural beauty and landscape of the place isn’t compromised with.

During the visit, the Minister appreciated the idea of the J&K Medicinal Plants Board which is exploring the possibility of developing medicinal plant nurseries at Gulmarg, so that same can be developed as an industry in the State. Later, he also took stock of famous potato farm there.

Meanwhile, Bukhari also interacted with traders, dhabawalas, hoteliers and others associated with the tourism sector for their inputs to promote tourism in the State and to promote Gulmarg as prime tourist destination.

DDC Baramulla Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, Director Tourism Kashmir, CEO GDA, Secretary (Technical) Health and Medical Education and officers from other concerned departments also accompanied the Minister.
