Death toll in Qazigund attack reaches 6
The death toll in the last week’s militant attack on a police party at Mirbazar area of Qazigund has reached to six after a civilian succumbed to injuries today.
A civilian who was injured during an attack on a police party in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district last week succumbed at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences ((SKIMS) Soura on Sunday, taking the death toll in the attack to six, hospital sources said.
The deceased was identified as Muhammad Hussain Dar, resident of Khrewan Malpora Anantnag. Hussain was injured after militants attacked a police patrolling party near Malpora-Mir Bazar on May 6.
A group of militants had attacked the police party which had rushed to Mirbazar area to take stock of the situation which had arisen after an accident took place in the area. Militants had laid an ambush in which initially four people including a policeman had died, but the death toll has now reached 6.
Mohammad Hussain Dar succumbed to his injuries after he was critically injured in the shootout earlier. He was rushed to the SKIMS where he remained under critical care observation and breathed his last today. He is survived by eight children, and is originally from Matalhama Kulgam. He had shifted to his in-laws house at Khrewan Malpora.
According to sources Hussain, who was in his 50s, was doing menial jobs to eke out living. “He was very poor and is survived by eight children,’’ said a local resident, adding that some of his children were still in their teens.
Identifying Hussain’s other family members as Mohammad Rafiq Dar, 28, a driver by profession, Mashooq Ahmad Dar, 22, carpenter by profession, Mudasir Ahmad Dar, 18, labourer by profession, Danish Ahmad Dar 12, 7-th class student, Aaqib Ahmad Dar, 9, 4th primary student, Dali Jan, 25, Lali Jan, 20 and Sania, 7, family members said that he was a lone bread winner for them.
The death of Hussain took place only few days after one of his daughters was engaged.
“Mohammad Rafiq Dar, Mudasir Ahmad Dar, Dali Jan are married and Lali Jan’s engagement was also fixed just a fortnight before the death of Muhammad Hussain Dar,’’ said a family member.
A policeman and a wanted militant of Lashkar-e-Taiba and 3 other civilians were among five persons killed in the attack earlier which had occurred in the late night hours.
