Clashes amid shutdown in Shopian for third consecutive day

Scores of youth pelted stones on forces at Alyalpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district who retaliated with tear smoke shells triggered clashes, which continued for a while, eyewitnesses said.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in south Kashmir’s Shopian Saturday on third consecutive day against the alleged disappearance of a local youth in police custody.

Police have failed to trace him since May 1.

Zubair Ahmad Turray son of Bashir Ahmad Turray, according to police escaped from police station Keegam on May 1.

Zubair, a resident of Bonebazar area of Shopian was arrested many times on stone pelting charges. Last time he was arrested in first week of March this year.
Local sources said that all shops and business establishments are closed in the town.
