Lauding the spirit with which the people of Reasi, irrespective of caste, creed, colour, religion, foiled machinations of divisive forces in the wake of recent self-styled vigilantism, National Conference (NC), on Thursday, said harmony and brotherhood remains corner-stone of the state’s glorious ethos.

“Any attempt of undermining harmony is against the idea of Jammu and Kashmir”, NC district president and former minister Jagjeevan Lal said while addressing party functionaries at a meeting.

Jagjeevan Lal said that NC has all along worked for strengthening the bonds of amity and brotherhood and would do so despite provocations by divisive forces.

Praising the party cadre for meeting the challenge, he said, “The people stood resolutely against those disrupting harmony and it is the strength of the state’s ethos.”

The former minister referred to the governance deficit of the PDP-BJP coalition and said that failure on all fronts has put the state in a crisis.

“While law and order is deteriorating with each passing day, development has taken a huge dent. The process of development undertaken during the previous National Conference-led government has come to a standstill due to lack of vision among the coalition partners.”

“They are indulging in diversionary tactics instead of concentrating on governance. As a result, the people of the region were suffering.”

He said the erratic power and drinking water supply besides scarce rations at the CAPD outlets are major irritants that have impacted the people the most.

Block President, Raj Kumar, and other functionaries, including Capt Retd Ram Lal, also addressed the meeting and highlighted the problems faced to the people of Reasi.

Those who were present in the meeting included Tariq Bhat, Ibrahim, Ghulam Nabi, Noor Mohd, Haram Singh, Ratan Bhagat, Babli, Charan Dass, Ayob Bhat, Tara Mani, Capt. Gandarb, Beli Ram and others.
