Authorities initiate sanitation drive in Veer village

Large number of people, including students from 24 schools, participated in a sanitation drive that was kick started in the Veer village of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The sanitation drive was organised under Swachh Bharat Mission and was led by ACD Anantnag, Ghulam Mustafa Andrabi, DPO Anantnag S. K. Raina and BDO Bijbehara Ashfeen Ali Khan.

To keep the natural beauty of Kashmir safe and intact, the speakers gave a lot of emphasis to keep the surroundings clean. They said that there must be a toilet in every house to thwart the spread of diseases and to protect the environment.

Pertinently, to accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014.

Through sanitation we can promote hygiene and by proper disposal of human waste spread of diseases can be prevented.

Emphasis was given that citizens should be given basic personal hygiene tips like washing hands with soap to avoid health problems.

Wastes that can cause health problems include human and animal excreta, solid wastes, domestic wastewater, industrial wastes and agricultural wastes, the audience was informed.
