Slain Army officer’s death leaves family, friends shell-shocked
The killing of army officer Lt Ummer Fayaz Parry by unidentified gunmen at Shopian has left his friends and family members shell-shocked today.
The young Army officer, who was abducted and then killed by unknown gunmen, was buried at Sursun village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Lieutenant Fayaz from RAJRIF unit in Akhnoor had gone to attend the wedding of his maternal uncle’s daughter at Batapura Mantribugh on Tuesday, from where he was abducted by unknown gunmen at around 10 pm. His dead body was found at Harmen Shopian.
After the post mortem was performed at district hospital in Shopian, his body was brought to Sursun for burial. Fayaz was commissioned on 10th December 2016 into the Army after passing out from the National Defence Academy (NDA) and was set to head for the Young Officers Course in September this year. “He was part of the hockey team of NDA, excellent volleyball player. He was physically tough and the troops enjoyed being with him,” an army official said
The police said that the officer was shot five times in an orchard. His body was found lying in a pool of blood by a local resident at Harman and after being informed the police rushed to the spot.
Son of fruit dealer, Fayaz Ahmad Parray, Umar was a student of Jawahar Navodya Vidyala Ashmuqam upto 12th and had qualified for the NDA. A close relative of Umar, Tariq Ahmad, while talking to Kashmir Vision, said that his maternal uncle hasn’t any son and for his daughters he was like their own brother.
“So he got permission from army authorities to attend the marriage ceremony. He was there in ceremony and 2 to 3 Persons came there and they were in their civvies. They talked for a while with him in a friendly manner, after that they asked him to accompany them outside for a while. He (Umer) went with them and later his dead body was recovered,’’ said Tariq.
Ummer’s friends took to the twitter to express their grief. Reacting over the incident, Umer Fida, wrote on facebook that the incident was unfortunate.
“This is how our young gems are being lost,’’ he wrote. His classmate, Muneer Mustafa, said that Umer was very good in mathematics and “I used to call him Mr Computer.’’
