The much a talked about Khanbal-Pahalgam (KP) road is in a dilapidated condition. The bad condition of the road is giving a tough time to the commuters who have been demanding for its immediate repairs.

A group of locals said the road has been in a pathetic condition for the past two years now and the concerned department has failed to pay attention to the woes of the residents and commuters.

Importantly, the KP road was considered as a dream project of the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayed.

“The road has another importance attached to it connects world famous tourist destination Pahalgam with Khanabal,” says Abdul Rasheed Wadoo, a tourist guide.

“This road is in a very bad shape. Of late tourists have started coming to Pahalgam and within few weeks from now the Amarnath yatra is also scheduled to begin,” he added.

When contacted, Executive Engineer R&B Division Khanbal Mohammad Ayoub said that the KP road is already approved for being developed as a Model Road.

“The project has been undertaken however, it will take us three years to complete the road. We are in the process of identifying the spots which need immediate repairs on the entire stretch. We will be starting the repair work within a few days time,” he added.
