The government schools set up in remote areas seem to have gone out of th focus area of the JK government as most of the schools in rural areas are craving for the teaching staff and other facilities.

The development comes at a time when the government is beating drums about taking the education sector to new heights.

The schools in rural areas are teacher deficient despite the class work being started in schools two months ago.

The Government Middle School (GMS) in Rajpora area of Baramulla district is one such example which punctures the government claims of providing sufficient teachers to the schools.

The school has an enrolment of over 30 students. However, there are no teachers posted in the school to teach the students in this school. A group of locals from Rajpora said that government had earlier posted two teachers for the school. However, the teachers were suspended for their involvement in a scam.

“Both are ReT but they never came to school since the day of their suspension by the department. Their absence has left the students in distress,” the locals said.

The residents had come to meet the Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to highlight the plight of the students who have become ‘victims’ of the government’s apathy.

“We had approached the concerned CEO Baramulla and ZEO Dangerpora but they paid deaf ears to our grievance. So we have come to meet the director here in Srinagar,” the residents said.

They said the students have not taken any classes since long owing to the failure of department to post the requisite staff in the school.

“The academic of students is hit but the department is least bothered about it,” they said.

GMS Rajpora is not the only school which has become victim of official neglect but there are various such schools which expose the official negligence, affecting the studies of the students.

Government High School Rampor in Barmulla has over 100 students enrolled in it and has four teachers posted there.

However, one of the teachers, according to locals has availed study level and has gone to pursue in-service B.Ed degree while as another teachers deals with clerical job in the school.

“There are only two teachers left who take classes of the students. This is height of callousness on the part of government,” the locals said.

Later the locals met DSEK Dr G N Itoo and highlighted the plight of students who have been rendered without teachers.

The DSEK according to locals has directed the concerned Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla to visit the schools personally and resolve the issue.

“DSEK was annoyed with the non-availability of teachers in these two schools and he directed CEO to visit the two schools and address the grievance,” they said.
