Private Schools Association of Kashmir (PSAK) has welcomed the government decision to change the school timing in Srinagar Municipal Limits from 8.00 am to 8.30 am by terming it as a big relief to school administration and students alike.

The Association said that 8.00 AM was very inconvenient for everybody particularly small children. “Starting at 8.00 AM meant that schools, students and parents had to start preparing from 6.00 AM. For a kid of three, it was very inconvenient,” said GN Var chairman PSAK. “Though 8.30 AM is also early but it is comparatively better than previous timing and a relief for all.”

The Association thanked the Secretary Education Farooq Shah for personally looking into the matter and responding on urgent basis. “When the Secretary Education was apprised of the situation and problems faced by people due to early school timing, he agreed to look into it and then ordered to change the timing from 8 am-2.00 pm to 8.30 am-2.30 pm within a fortnight,” said Var.

The Association also directed its schools to observe the timing strictly and don’t allow any violation to take place.

Meanwhile the Association appealed the Education Minister and Secretary Education to take representatives of PSAK on board before framing the academic calendar. “Education needs collective approach and in this regard government should frame the academic calendar in consultation with private school representatives and experts. To compensate for the losses due to multiple reason the academic calendar should do away with the unnecessary holidays and utilise them for education,” said Var.
