After the escalation in incidents of violence in South Kashmir, police have worked out an area domination plan under which the Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) rank officers are made to head the joint patrol of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Besides, active militancy stretches have also been identified which will be manned by the government forces.

The joint patrol arrangements have been planned by the concerned police Incharge of the districts of Kulgam, Shopian, Anantang and Pulwama which have seen spate of militant attacks including the weapon snatching incidents for the last few months.

South Kashmir was in the grip of the heavy protests last year after the death of HM militant commander, Burhan Muzafar Wani, in July 2016, following which a  spiral of protests was triggered which claimed nearly 100 lives across Kashmir, mostly of civilians in the South Kashmir.

On Wednesday while students indulged in the incidents of stone pelting in the main market of Pulwama, barely few kilometres away unidentified gunmen looted money from two bank branches at Newa and Wahibug.

The militancy incidents have shown a sharp increase following which the police and the CRPF have intensified the security and joint patrols that are being carried out in different areas.

In a recent order which has been issued by the Superintendent of Police (SP) Pulwama, the concerned Station House Officers (SHOs) of different police stations have been intimated about the deployment plan which has been worked out for the month of May.

As per the order issued by the SP it has been noted that the area domination plan shall be strictly observed by the concerned police officials and the joint patrol of the CRPF and police should be carried out.

In what police calls the “mobile bunkers’’ the officials have been asked to also patrol in the vehicles that have been provided to them. As per the order issued by the SP it has been noted that the “area domination plan must be strictly followed as per the instructions which have been issued in this regard.’’

The Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) officer have been asked to monitor the patrolling which has to be intense in the areas that have particularly seen increase in the incidents of militancy.  A senior police official said that the orders have been issued in the wake of increase in the “incidents of militancy across South Kashmir.”

Also while police and army are carrying out joint patrols, Army has also stepped up vigil and is carrying out frisking of the vehicles and the body searches to ensure that no untoward incident was reported.

A local resident, Shoib Shakeel, of Pulwama, said that the forces have also used helicopters as part of the security apparatus, which has however triggered fear among the people. Shakeel, who studies in the government higher secondary school, said that he and his other friends were terrified as they found the helicopters hovering in the sky.
