Joint resistance leadership has asked people to stage peaceful protests today.

In a statement issued here, JRL leaders comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik strongly condemned the excessive force being used against the civilian population in south Kashmir’s Shopian district onThursday.

The leadership urged people to stage peaceful protests against state terrorism after Friday congregational prayers.

The resistance leadership also expressed concerns over the increasing use of forces against civilians, saying that “the state has started a war against civilians.”

The leadership appealed the youth to “maintain order during their protests against state sponsored terrorism.”

Leadership also castigated the state over the use of ‘brute’ force on unarmed, peaceful villagers in Shopian, saying that “forces are laying siege on villagers and during crackdown people are thrashed and properties ransacked,” adding that “no rule of law exists, and state is virtually reeling under martial law.”
