Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday expressed solidarity with the families of Bomai Sopore and Begum Bagh Kakpora, saying that ‘the role of police and their track record has always been doubtful in such incidents.’

“Till now not a single culprit was brought to book and it is as such an attempt to cool down the people’s resentment and hush up the case,” Geelani in a statement said.

Geelani expressed his deep anguish over the incidents in which forces severely thrashed members of these families. “Forces have been deployed to create nineties like situations in villages and towns,” said Geelani.

Terming it, ‘frustration’ of authorities and outcome of unprecedented poll boycott by people, Geelani said, “Forces enjoy backing of their masters and as such are harassing and intimidating civilians. They are following Doval Doctrine and are accountable to none.”

While referring to recent video clips uploaded by forces, Geelani said that they are doing this under well thought plan to ‘harass’ civilians and particularly the youth.

Referring to these incidents and police version, Geelani said “there will be no truth in the police version and they are equally responsible for the incident and their main aim is to shelve such cases.”

“There seems to be no let up and unless these cases are investigated by impartial agencies there is every apprehension that these incidents will be repeated and will go unnoticed,” asserted Geelani.
