Frequent suspension of class work affecting students
When student protests erupted in Srinagar on Monday, 24th April, district administration was quick to respond by suspending the class work in major institutions in Srinagar. Classwork in S P Higher Secondary and M P Higher Secondary School was suspended which still is continuing.
After Monday, the district administration issued several orders of suspension of class work. On 30th April, the district administration continuing with the ‘precautionary’ measures, ordered suspension of class work in SP Higher Secondary and MP Higher Secondary School. On 1st May, administration again ordered the suspension of class work, but said that “class work in MP school to resume partially.”
When this report was filed, one more order was issued by the administration that ordered partial resumption of classes in SP Higher Secondary School and said that “Normal class work for class 9th and 10th shall take place from tomorrow (3rd May). However, class work for rest of the classes will remain suspended in SP school,” the order said.
Now that the protests have died down the administration is still reluctant in fully resuming the class work in these major higher secondary institutions.
“There are no protests, why isn’t the government resuming the class work fully,” said Bashir Ahmad, a parent. “Already, a lot of time was wasted during 2016, and now again there is no end to it. The government should take the matter seriously and start the normal class work in these institutions,” he added.
Students enrolled in these institutions are aghast and are demanding the early resumption of class work, as the frequent suspension of class work is affecting their studies badly. “There were protests for some days, and then it was all normal, but we are still not able to attend our classes,” said Saqib Mir, a class 12th student in M P School.
