Teachers skip class work to ‘welcome’ Director
In a bizzare move, the teachers from various districts on Monday left their classes’ midway and reached the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to receive the newly appointed Director here.
The Directorate at Srinagar was crowded with the teachers affiliated with different forums including Lecturers Forum, JK Teachers Forum who had come to “welcome” the newly appointed director Ghulam Nabi Itoo.
Itoo was posted as new DSEK on Saturday relieving Kumar Rajiv Ranjan who was transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner Jammu.
Meanwhile, the teachers and lecturers who skipped their routine class work on Monday met DSEK during official hours and sought resolution of their various issues.
“We were surprised to see the teachers assembling here during working hours to receive new director. It was totally against the interest of students who are the real stakeholders of the Department,” said one of the employees at Directorate.
Itoo reached Directorate around 2:30 pm and convened a meeting with DSEK employees which was attended by trade union leaders during working hours.
“Despite skipping their classes the teachers were allowed to join the meeting which has obviously set a bad precedence here in the Department,” the employee said.
Interestingly, the then Director School Education Kashmir Dr Shah Faesal had banned the forum activity of teachers and other unions during working hours. The Department had issued formal orders to bar the forum associates from organising forum related programmes in Department during official hours.
“But today new DSEK revived the forums and accommodated them in official meetings which were held during official hours when these teachers should have remained present in their schools,” said one of the employees of DSEK.

Meanwhile, after assuming his charges as DSEK, Itoo stressed for providing peaceful atmosphere to teachers saying that the move will pawe way for improving academic standards in schools.
During his meeting with officials, Itoo called for enforcement of Bio metric attendance on schools and improving delivery system in Department.
“We will focus to ensure transparency in the working of Department and focus on ensuring punctuality of officials as well,” he said.
