Hailing the statement of Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, that India and Pakistan must talk to resolve the Kashmir issue, the incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Shabir Ahmad Shah, on Monday, said it very ‘encouraging’. “We are satisfied that the world leadership is keenly observing the developments in Kashmir and would fulfil its responsibility in this regard.”

“We welcome the suggestion of Turkish President Erdogan. Kashmir is a long-standing dispute between the two nuclear neighbours,” he said.

Shah termed it as ‘a positive development’ and said, “The people of Jammu Kashmir and Pakistan have always been favouring the resolution of this dispute through tripartite talks or by implementing the UN resolutions.”

Appealing to Turkish President to use his good office to stress upon Centre to resolve the Kashmir issue, the DFP chairman said, “We are seeking help from the international community in our movement of the right to self-determination.”

Shabir Ahmad Shah also thanked Pakistan Army Chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, for pledging support to the Kashmir issue and wished well to the people of the state. “We hope Pakistan’s political and military leadership continues its political, moral, and diplomatic support to our cause,” he said.

On this occasion, Shah paid tributes to founder and editor of the daily Kashmir Times, Late Ved Bhasin on his 88th birth anniversary. “Late Ved Bhasin was an honest, sincere and fearless journalist, who had faced numerous problems created by his enemies but he remained steadfast on his stand. We salute his courage,” Shah said.
