Grenade blast in Khanyar leaves civilian dead

A civilian was killed and another injured alongwith four police personnel in a grenade attack in Srinagar’sKhanyar area on Sunday, police sources said.

They said that the attack took place in the evening hours when suspected militants hurled a grenade at Khanyar Police Station located in old city.

The grenade exploded on the roadside, resulting in the death of a civilian and injuries to many others including the policemen.

Police sources said that the slain civilian has been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Khan, resident of Illahibagh Buchpora. Khan was passing through the area when the grenade blast took place.

The militants fired few shots in air also while they managed to escape from the spot, sources added.

The injured civilian and policemen have been shifted to nearby hospitals and the area has been cordoned off for searches.
