Valley receives fresh snowfall as temperature plummets

Temperature witnessed a decline on Saturday as South Kashmir witnessed a fresh snowfall much to the surprise of people here. Elsewhere, rains continued to lash most parts of the Valley.

On Saturday morning Pahalgam area of south Kashmir witnessed a fresh snowfall with officials claiming that more than two inches of snow accumulated in the scenic Valley.

Officials said that two inches of snow accumulated in Pahalgam areas since morning. As per reports mild snowfall was also witnessed in many high altitudes of the valley.

Talking to Kashmir Vision an official of the Pahalgam development authority said that the fresh snowfall can turn out to an added surprise for the tourists who have started to flock the Pahalgam tourist spot.

“Due to the turmoil in last year, we are expecting more tourist’s footfall this year. Tourists in large number have started to visit here and we hope day by day the flow will increase,” he said.

Meanwhile, rains have lashed the Valley since early today resulting decrease in daytime temperatures. A MeT official said that the daytime temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 10.5 degrees.

Interestingly, an official of the Meteorological Department said that isolated rainfall will continue in most parts of the valley till May 8.

 The MeT official added that the weather is going to improve from 9 May.
