Militant arrested after ‘rifle-snatching bid’

Paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force personnel Friday ‘apprehended’ a militant after he fired upon a trooper and tried to snatch his service rifle in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Reports said that two militants barged inside the TP branch of J&K Bank in Lal Chowk Anantnag and attempted to snatch the rifle of a trooper.

The militant reportedly fired upon a CRPF man and as he tried to snatch the rifle from the wounded trooper, other CRPF personnel caught hold of him foiled his bid. The second militant managed to escape from the spot.

Reports added that a bullet hit the arm of the CRPF man who was later hospitalized while the militant was handed over to police.

Police sources identified the arrested militant as Muneeb Ahmad of Reshipora Behibagh area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam.
