KU VC visits South Campus, addresses conference

Jammu and Kashmir has huge potential for establishment of world-class enterprises and there is a need to change the mind-set and provide practical exposure to students on entrepreneurship development, Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi has said.

Addressing valedictory function of two-day national-level conference “Entrepreneurship opportunities and Challenges in the Contemporary World”, organised by the Department of Management Studies at University’s South Campus, Prof Andrabi emphasised the need for promoting entrepreneurship as a career choice to tackle the emerging problem of unemployment in the state.

Prof Andrabi also discussed the university’s resolve in taking up entrepreneurship development on priority.

In his opening remarks, Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Zarri Director, South Campus appreciated the role played by the JKEDI and highlighted the need for Universities and Colleges to consider providing insight about entrepreneurship to graduating students to curb the problem of unemployment. Prof. Abdul Gani from Central University of Kashmir also shared his thoughts on the subject.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat, Advisor Entrepreneurship Development Cell and Dean Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology and Dr Ashfaq Zarri.

Dr. Saiyed Wajid Ali from Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi delivered keynote address and talked about critical issues and opportunities vis-à-vis entrepreneurship at national and international level, while Arif Ahmad Khan Project Manager, JKEDI discussed schemes on promoting entrepreneurship in the State. 31 research papers were presented during three technical sessions by participants representing various prestigious universities including Jamia Millia Islamia, University of Hyderabad, Jain University Bangalore, Central University of Kashmir, Islamic University of Science and Technology and The Business School, University of Kashmir and NIT Srinagar etc. Prof Andrabi congratulated the Department of Management Studies of South Campus and conference coordinator Dr Irfana Rashid Baba for organising the event. Dr. Tahir Ahmed Wani presented the summary of the conference proceedings and major recommendations while Dr. Irfana Baba presented the vote of the thanks. Mir Shahid conducted proceedings of the event.
