JK govt must change mind-set towards ongoing crisis: Mirwaiz
After not being allowed to offer prayers for the past seven consecutive Fridays as he was under house arrest, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, addressed a congregation at Jamia Masjid.
He termed the ongoing resistance movement of the people of Kashmir as spontaneous and said it was time that the Centre recognized this fact and confronted the reality.
“Mass student protests and agitation across the Valley clearly brought out that every section and segment of the Kashmiri society was actively connected with the sentiment.”
Mirwaiz said, “The state has to understand that it cannot control the situation by resorting to force. It has to change its mindset and allow students their space for activism and freedom of expression in college and university campuses.”
“Keeping leadership in jails or under house detention for months or for years has proved futile in containing the problem as it is a pan-Kashmir struggle and not confined to any particular section, that it can be isolated and curbed by force.”
Mirwaiz said, “Much blood of innocents have flown and the people of Kashmir want peace. It is up to the Centre to achieve this and for this it has to seriously engage with the people of Kashmir.”
On this occasion, the killing of a civilian, Ghulam Hassan Bhat, by the Army at Panzgam Kupwara was condemned.
