Restrictions imposed in Kupwara areas to prevent protests against civilian killing

Authorities today imposed restrictions on assembly of people in parts of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district to maintain law and order in the wake of a civilian death in yesterday’s firing.

The restrictions have been imposed to maintain peace in view of the protests after a civilian Mohammad Yousuf Bhat died in a firing incident by forces on the demonstrators yesterday.a

The areas where restrictions have been imposed include Kupwara town, Kralpora, Trehgam and Lalpora Sogam, District Magistrate, Kupwara said.

He said that the situation in the area was under control , and no untoward incident has been reported so far and  the restrictions were imposed in view of the possibility of protests.

Three soldiers and two militants, including an officer, were killed in yesterdays’ Kupwara attack. A civilian was also killed when forces fired on people demanding the dead bodies of militants killed in the attack.
