Clashes erupt in Sopore after Friday prayers

Clashes erupted between the government forces and protesters in North Kashmir’s Sopore town after Friday prayers.

According to reports, soon after Friday prayers, youth assembled near old Markazi Jamia Masjid area of Sopore and started shouting pro-freedom and Pro-Azadi slogans. Sources said that the large gathering of youth started pelting stones on deployed forces.

According to reports police resorted to teargas shelling and sound grenade blasts to quell the protests.

Traffic movement was suspended and shopkeepers shut down their business after protests emerged in the town.

Meanwhile the clashes also spread to Batpora and Shah Dargah Chowk of the town, where scores of youth appeared on roads and started protests against the civilian killing during Kupwara encounter on Thursday.
